This series of work was completed in January 2023 as part of Var Gallery’s 30x30x30 project in which a group of artists were selected to each create 30 artworks during the first 30 days of the year. My series is titled Offsets and Suckers referencing horticultural terms for new buds that sprout from the root of a plant (sucker) or from the base of a plant (offset). I approached this project as an exercise to create a library of forms and patterns that I will continue to develop in larger paintings. They combine imagery from 17th-century Dutch still life paintings and contemporary flower studies.
